The paint is really rough and it looks like the trunk has been replaced at some point.

Easy. Its nowhere near local to you. By the time you can get to it, it will be long gone.

As an NA x308 owner, I personally wouldn’t touch anything before 2001. That’s only the second model year, so a lot of problems may not have been ironed out. With 100k, I assume it doesn’t have a Nikasil-lined engine, but I would still want to know for sure.

At $1,500 though, that’s pretty much “who gives a shit” money for a 5 second 0-60 sleeper. Just do your homework on supercharger problems, because a lot of people have them, and I’m sure that ‘98s would be some of the worst of the lot.

On the other hand, the tranny is more reliable than the one in the NAs, and I don’t think you’d have to worry about plastic tensioners.

If you really want encouragement to buy it, look on YouTube for Clarkson reviewing the 1997 XJR on old old Top Gear.

My thoughts exactly. If it does blow up, I'm more than confident that I could part it out for more than I payed for it.

I mean I could in theory fly out this afternoon and drive back tomorrow and be back in time for Labor Day...but it's just such a bad idea.

At the very least, you could get $500-$700 for the wheels. And I'd be first in line for the center console lid. (I was going to say the walnut trim too, but it looks like this car has spent a lot of time in the sun, because it's pretty cloudy).

Do it. I want to live vicariously through you. But I’m married, and have somehow managed to acquire 5 cars already, so anything more is a solid doghouse move.

You should take a look at this:

And wade through this:

The absolute best thing about X308s is that they tend to be purchased by extremely obsessive DIYers, so anything that could go wrong usually has a great step-by-step write up with photos, and in a lot of cases, someone will even have even made a PDF with instructions.

DO IT!!! NOW!!!

Honestly would myself if it wasn’t the worst possible timing and I didn’t already own one of its two main competitors.

I’m slowly compiling my fleet of luxury cars... Only problem is that I’m running out of space to store them. I have a second, two stall garage/workshop but it’s far too small to fit anything short of a Miata. If only the tree currently hovering over it would just fall already.

I know that feeling. I came super close to jumping on this one a few weeks ago, not least because it was priced right and maintained by my Jag mechanic:

(Unsurprisingly, someone else jumped on it quickly)

A buddy of my fathers has a X308 XJR that I've been trying to get my hands on for a while. It's a gorgeous car...

I’ve got an NA and an NC Miata, a 24' travel trailer, a WJ Grand Cherokee, an XJ Cherokee and a ‘57 Studebaker. And we shall make no mention of the General Mayhem-esque ‘63 Galaxie hiding at my dad’s place 1,500 miles away. I have a problem... that problem is, I don’t have a 50'x80' pole barn on 10 acres. Wife disagrees...

I in theory would have space for a 35x25 pole barn if I get rid of the pile of wreckage that is my boat sitting in front of my work shop.

That’s the dream. For now I’ll just be satisfied with my RV pad, spacious driveway, 2 car garage and lack of a homeowner's association.

I have a lot of space as well. Big lawn/driveway with room for a storage lot workshop and a rough dirt bike/snowmobile track, all surrounded by thick forest.

My girlfriend knows that I want a house that is mainly a garage. On where the island in the kitchen is all that separates it from the garage. Maybe that is why she doesn't believe in marriage.

There is only one choice here. The weather is socal is usually beautiful this time of year. And it’s early enough that mountain passes won’t be snow covered.
